Lymphedema Treatment
Lymphedema is a condition where the lymphatic system has been compromised.  There is an inadequate drainage of fluid and proteins which results in the swelling of tissues.

There are 2 types of Lymphedema:

  • Primary Lymphedema is caused by a developmental defect of the lymphatic system.
  • Secondary Lymphedema is caused by damage to parts of the lymphatic system as a result of trauma, and treatment of some cancers when the lymph nodes are removed, or when damage occurs to lymph vessels and nodes.

Lymphedema treatment or Combined Decongestive Therapy (CDT) is lymph drainage therapy applied to individuals who have been diagnosed with lymphedema.  This type of treatment differs from regular Manual Lymph Drainage because it requires more in depth knowledge of this condition and each individual’s treatment plan differs due to symptoms, stage, and phase of the condition.

Although lymphedema is a lifelong condition, it CAN BE CONTROLLED by using the Dr. Vodder method of Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) and Combined Decongestive Therapy (CDT). Treatment consists of Manual Lymph Drainage and the administration of compression bandaging, specific exercises, proper diet, and skin care, which is known as Combined Decongestive Therapy (CDT).

Commitment to an intense treatment plan is very necessary for best results to reduce the size of swelling in the affected limb.  Once the swelling is under control and the limb is at a desirable size, a compression garment is obtained and Manual Lymph Drainage treatments are performed for maintenance.

Other Conditions

Manual Lymph Drainage alleviates pain by greatly reducing the pain signals sent to the brain, decreases stress levels, enhances the immune system, and aids the body to speedier recovery from injuries, surgeries, chronic conditions and edema, as well as minimizing scar formation.

Beata is very passionate in assisting her clients with post-surgical recovery.  With Manual Lymph Drainage, post-surgical edema/swelling and overall recovery can be reduced half the time.  It is best to start Manual Lymph Drainage treatment before surgery in order to stimulate the entire lymphatic system and continue with treatments soon after surgery.  In some cases, results are evident in as little as one treatment.  However, it is advised to have a few treatment sessions booked consecutively for best results.  A treatment plan will be discussed at the first visit which will determine the number of treatment sessions for maximum results.

Manual Lymph Drainage is highly effective in treating:

  • Pre/post-surgery – plastic surgery, dental, hip, knee, etc.
  • Lymphedema
  • Post Cancer
  • Acute sprains/strains
  • Chronic pain and fatigue
  • Pregnancy edema
  • Burns, Scars, and Acne
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Meniere’s disease
  • Tinnitus
  • Detoxification

Manual Lymph Drainage is not limited to just the list above.  Any condition where there is a congestion of fluid is applicable for Manual Lymph Drainage treatment(s).  Contact Beata with any concerns, questions, and condition you have to see the best course of treatment for you.

Manual Lymph Drainage Therapy will be covered under your extended health insurance under Massage Therapy.
